Project history
Sharivsky Castle was built in 1836 by landowner Petro Olkhovsky on land that belonged to Matviy Shariy, who bought it back in 1670. The neo-Gothic palace became the pride of the Merchik River valley and the center of an estate that covered over 70 hectares.
After 1836, the estate passed to the Heberstein brothers, who expanded the territory and planted rare trees in the park. At the end of the 19th century, Sharivka was purchased by Baron Leopold König, an industrialist and owner of sugar factories. It was during his time that the palace acquired its modern appearance: with terraces, greenhouses, and a garden designed by landscape architect Georg Kufaldt.
After 1917, the estate was nationalized, and in 1925, a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients was opened here, which operated until 2008. After its closure, the castle was opened to visitors. Today, Sharivka Castle remains an architectural gem of the Kharkiv region — a witness to the changing eras and a symbol of beauty.
Solution
The primary task at the site was to restore the damaged sections of the retaining wall and bay window structure. As a result of many years of water damage and lack of waterproofing, these elements had reached a critical condition that threatened their continued existence.
It was decided to begin restoration work in these areas. The decision involved the complete dismantling of the damaged sections, with the mandatory careful preservation of all authentic historical and architectural elements for their subsequent restoration and integration into the reconstructed structures.
