What makes a bricklayer’s heart sing? When everything is in order:

the scaffolding is set up;
the materials are prepared;
the assistants are quick;
the mortar is convenient and elastic.

In such conditions, it is possible to achieve high speed — “drive and drive cubes.” Since bricklayers are paid for the number of bricks laid, this means earning more.

And what slows down the work? In my opinion, the first thing is a sluggish or inattentive assistant.
Second is poor masonry mortar.

What is poor mortar?
Mortar that “settles” in the bucket before the bricklayer has time to use it. The water separates and rises to the top, the thick mixture settles to the bottom, and the work stops. You have to give the bucket to the assistant to stir it, wasting time. Or you can stir it yourself, but stirring mortar with a trowel in a bucket is no easy task. Those who have done it know!

Long ago, builders discovered a secret — adding liquid soap or washing powder. This makes the mortar mixture more elastic.
But listen, that was in the past! Detergents were invented for the bathroom, so let them stay there.

 

Improved adhesion: it bonds well with bricks, ensuring high structural strength.
Improved elasticity: the mortar is easy to work with, easy to apply and level.
Solution stability: does not "settle" and retains its consistency for a long time.
Frost resistance: thanks to air entrainment, the mortar becomes more frost-resistant, which is important for cold climates.
No efflorescence: helps to avoid white spots on bricks, preserving aesthetics.
Safety: does not contain chlorides or other corrosive substances.

Construction science has already developed special additives specifically for construction mortars that eliminate all side effects and significantly improve the quality of masonry.
