Material that changes space

Microcement is rapidly gaining popularity as one of the most fashionable finishing materials in modern interiors and exteriors. This decorative material combines practicality with aesthetics, allowing you to create minimalistic yet cozy spaces with various finishes – monolithic surfaces, geometric patterns, delicate texture, marble effect or, most often, the effect of polished concrete. And it’s environmentally friendly.

It is a thin-layer decorative coating based on polymer-modified cement with the addition of fine fillers and pigments. Despite its thin layer, microcement is highly durableand wear-resistant, and when applied correctly, it does not crack. This material first appeared in the Mediterranean countries and quickly gained popularity all over the world, becoming synonymous with the modern style of interior decoration.

Where is microcement used?

Due to its properties – aesthetics, strength, water resistance and wear resistance – microcement has an extremely wide range of applications in both interior and exterior decoration.

In the interior

Microcement is ideal for residential and commercial premises. The seamless coating creates a modern, holistic look and is harmoniously combined with various interior styles. It is often used during renovations due to the possibility of applying it to various substrates: concrete, tiles, drywall, wood, etc.
Microcement is especially popular in wet areas, such as bathrooms, due to its hydrophobic properties, mold resistance, and easy maintenance.

In the exterior

Who says microcement is only suitable for interiors? Exterior decoration is another area of application for this material.
Microcement perfectly withstands the effects of the external environment: rain, sun, temperature changes. Therefore, it is used for finishing terraces, balconies, stairs, platforms, facades and pool areas. The coating retains its appearance and color even in the open air, and anti-slip varnishes ensure safe use outdoors.

Walls

Microcement is actively used for wall decoration in living rooms, bedrooms, offices and other premises. The seamless surface creates a modern and sleek look, easily fits into various interior styles: minimalism, loft, Scandinavian, industrial.
In wet areas, such as bathrooms, microcement provides protection against moisture, prevents mold from accumulating, and is easy to clean. Thanks to the topcoat, the walls remain .stay protected and clean even without ceramic tiling."

Floors

For floors, microcement is a combination of aesthetics and functionality. It can withstand daily use, has no seams, does not crack and does not require complex maintenance. The coating is comfortable for daily use in living quarters and retains its beautiful appearance for years.

Showers and bathrooms

Microcement is an ideal material for wet areas. It is used to cover floors, walls, showers, and washbasins. The seamless surface prevents the accumulation of moisture and mold, and special protective varnishes make it water-repellent and easy to clean. It requires less maintenance than traditional tilesand looks more monolithic and modern.

Kitchen countertops and sinks

In the kitchen, microcement is used to decorate aprons, countertops, and sinks. It is heat-resistant, durable, stain-resistant and easy to clean. Thanks to its modern look, microcement is perfect for minimalist, loft or industrial kitchens.

Swimming pools

In the areas around swimming pools, microcement shows its best side: it is waterproof, non-slip (with proper varnishing), resistant to UV rays and temperature changes. This allows it to be used not only near pools, but also on the sides, in showers, or even in the bowls of decorative ponds.

Terraces

For outdoor spaces, microcement is a practical and durable solution. It is not afraid of rain, snow, heat or frost, retains its color in the sun, and with the addition of anti-slip properties, it ensures safe movement. The coating creates the effect of a "single space" between the interior and the outside environment.

Furniture: kitchen facades

Microcement is often used to cover kitchen facades - it is resistant to scratches, moisture and temperature changes. The surfaces look stylish, modern and suitable for active daily use.

Furniture: coffee tables, countertops

For designer furniture - tables, consoles, cabinets and countertops - microcement adds a concrete texture and modern aesthetics. It is suitable for both restrained interiors and exclusive solutions. At the same time, the furniture remains functional and practical.

How the technology works – step by step:

Technology step by step
1
1. Prime the surface with UNI PRIMER primer.
2-3. DUROCRET-DECO FLEX is added to water while mixing until the mixture reaches the required workability.
4. The material is applied with a 10 mm notched trowel.
5-6. Fiberglass mesh (160 g/m²) is laid on the “comb-like” surface of DUROCRET-DECO FLEX. It is then smoothed with the flat edge of a trowel to obtain a smooth coating.
7. After 24 hours, apply FLEX-PRIMER acrylic primer to the dry and hardened surface of DUROCRET-DECO FLEX.
8-9. While the primer is still fresh, apply DUROCRET-DECO FINISH in a layer of approximately 1 mm or DUROCRET-DECO FLEX in a layer of approximately 1.5 mm in the desired color to obtain the desired microcement finish.
10-11. 24 hours after application, you can carefully sand it for extra smoothness, if needed.
12. Then, clean the surface thoroughly with a vacuum cleaner.
13-14. Two to three days after application, once the surface is completely dry, you can apply a protective varnish to give it the final look you want.

Options for colors and effects

Microcement can be tinted in dozens of colors – from classic concrete gray to rich earth, sand, terracotta, graphite and steel colors. This allows you to create a unique space that fully matches your style.
